Antique bronze Kommu chembu / Antique Bronze Kindi

This beautifully crafted water pitcher, known as a “Kindi” in India, is used for daily ablutions and during religious or weddings ceremonies. Kindi’s were used to hold and dispense holy water (usually water from the holy river Ganges – “Gangajal”) as a symbol for purity and cleansing of the soul.
This particular piece has been sourced from the South Indian state of Kerala and is made of bronze. The kindi has a wonderful shape with a bottom rim for support, a large belly to hold water, a smoothly curved neck and a wide mouth on the top of the neck to receive water. Create a visual interest at home with this vintage piece.
